I love DeAndre Hopkins. He helped make Clemson cool without having to use Jesus’ name, image, and likeness, he has some of the sickest catches of the last decade in the NFL, and most importantly, he’s won me multiple fantasy football championships.
With that being said, I thought the days of a dominant DHop were by the wayside. I got Vietnam flashbacks of Julio Jones and Randy Moss in Titans uniforms as they clung to the twilight of their respective careers. Those worries were tempered last week as I saw Will Levis throw his first 3 touchdown passes of his career to the veteran receiver.
This is the part of the blog where I talk about how much of a square I am. People with half a brain know that last weeks performance was probably just a flash in the pan, lightning in a bottle, or just DHop against a shitty Falcons secondary.
But, that’s what separates me. I do not have half a brain. I have no brain. Most people would tell you betting on a player who scored 3 times last week would be considered chasing the money. I don’t care. I see DHop catch three touchdowns and I immediately put him back in the elite receiver conversation. I see him +210 to score a touchdown tonight and I immediately print the ticket.
I truly believe that Will Levis could have the same effect on Deandre Hopkins as when you buy a puppy to keep your older dog young.
There was a spark last week. Maybe it was a mirage. An indian summer as we enter the crisp autumn of Deandre Hopkins’ 10 year career. Maybe we look back at the end of the season and Week 8 was an anomaly in a pedestrian season by Deandre Hopkins.
But maybe he’s still elite.
